Zimmer Durom Cup Hip Implant

The Branch Law Firm is currently investigating claims on behalf of individuals who have experienced problems with the Zimmer Durom Acetabular Component, also known as the Zimmer Durom Cup. Introduced in the U.S. in 2006, the Zimmer Durom Acetabular Component was designed for use with Zimmer's Metasul Metal-on-Metal Tribological Solution Large Diameter Heads (LDH). Unlike traditional artificial hip parts, the Durom system contains a single piece of material. This newer type of artificial hip was created to address some of the problems that occur with traditional hip replacement components, such as wear of the bearing, instability, and limited range of motion. No screws, cement, epoxy, or other bonding agents are used to secure the Zimmer Durom Cup. Instead, it is intended to bond to the patient's hip socket as bone grows into the device's porous shell.

Although the Zimmer Durom Cup was intended to be an improvement over previous hip replacement components, it has caused serious problems for many total hip replacement patients. Many individuals implanted with the Zimmer Durom Cup have suffered extreme pain and discomfort after the surgery. Loosening of the artificial hip implant, which must be corrected through additional revision surgeries, is another problem that has been linked to the Zimmer Durom Cup. It appears that bone and tissues don't grow into the device correctly. As a result, the metal hip implant fails to bond with the existing bone structure and the metal socket loosens and separates, grinding against the bone as it moves. This grinding leaves patients in severe discomfort and surgery is required to correct the problem.

Lawsuits have been filed against Zimmer Holdings Inc., manufacturer of the Zimmer Durom Cup, alleging that this hip replacement system is defective. The suits also claim that the Zimmer Durom Cup was introduced without adequate warnings or instructions about the proper use and surgical techniques required for proper implantation. If you or a loved one has experienced discomfort or other problems after undergoing a total hip replacement surgery with the Zimmer Durom Cup, you may be entitled to recover compensation for the damages you suffered.
